In-flight board orientation over Salinas

In-flight board orientation over Salinas

The United States Air Force Thunderbirds arrive Thursday to begin an in-flight board orientation over Salinas.

Hundreds of volunteers have begun setting up at the Salinas Municipal Airport. More than 1,500 will ultimately be on hand to put together and run the event.

Part of the setup includes building a runway and other areas from scratch.

"We are marking the field which takes about three hours or so, so we're hoping for no rain to wash the markings away," Scott Maidment, director of concessions, said.

The Thunderbirds, flying F-16 Fighting Falcons, will reach Salinas airspace around 1:15 p.m. Thursday and land at the Monterey Airport.

A practice run will take place Friday.

Tune in to see Action News reporter Brittany Nielsen's live reports Thursday afternoon as she flies with the Thunderbirds.
